This page was nice to work on. I tried out using some different brush sizes (it seems obvious after the fact. HURGH.)
Also, introducing CAT PLISKIN. He escaped from L.A. and to New York and saved the world from black magic! And damn it all if he isn't the best weapons expert you could ever ask for. Just wait until he gets to use his yarn bombs. <3

I got lazy with the background again, but my senior show is going to be installed NEXT WEEKEND. Whatwhat. I have a lot on my plate. There probably won't be a Cat's Fur either next week or the week after. One of these upcoming weeks will be missing because of my show.

P.S. "Was't" is the newest, most awesome way of contracting "was not." Okay? Okay. :|

The S.T.A.N.K. cats appear to have successfully retrieved Jekyll from the other side. Even though he looks like a disembodied head in that last part, but I promise he's not.

I think I just wanted to spend more time coloring green glowy stuff. Plus, I really like full pages when I'm busy.

After our short visit with Lox and the gang, we're back in the city already!
Anti-Limbo Ray! Fishbones and Mr. Fancypaws (first canon appearance is now!) teamed up to create this stupid thing. It's powered by giant ghost mice in exercise wheels. :D
And it has an aperture for no reason! Also it uses liquid junk with bones and more ghost mice in it to fuel the awesomeness.

Vertebrae on the giant gun drawn with help from fellow-awesome-illustrator-who's-way-better-than-me, Julio Labra, who thinks vertebrae look like little squished coffee cups (I agree), yet didn't draw them that way.

Sorry for the lackluster page (and future lacklusterness.) I'm ashamed because this is the big 2-0. Oh well. They'll probably be a little more sparse until I finish my current projects. Could be a week, could be three. :C I'm reconsidering that it's a weekly comic - I feel like I'm rushing through it a lot and flying by the seat of my pants. It may become bi-weekly or "whenever I feel like it," especially depending on how things go when I graduate. I dunno :3 I love the gang but I feel like I can't spend enough time with them right now.

Kitties like to sit on paper, don'tcha know? People who like to talk about their cats also like to talk about how kitties sit on a tiny scrap of paper in the middle of the floor because it's so cute and weird. "HOW COME THEY SIT ON THE TINIEST SCRAP OF PAPER, AMIRITE? LOLOLOL"

Boss doesn't mess around. He gets a big stack of paper. I have no idea what his accent sounds like...could be Australian, could be UK, iunno yet.
Also, the Doc's scanner does, like, everything. See how the little dimensional particle waves look like snakes? Yeah. B3

Sorry the composition of this page is so weird. I couldn't figure out how to fit the dialogue on there and have it not cover up too much of the paper stack so you could still tell what it is. :| Hrm.
Also, sorry this page is like 24 hours late. My life is eating my comic right now.

Fishbones continues his little trip down into the lair, passes more robots and some long cats. Reports to the Boss.
Bosscat ain't pleased. Kitty growl.

The last panel has a kind of "sugary sweet Dr. Seuss" feel to it that I kind of like.
Sometimes I feel like I go a little overboard with the halftone gradients. Then I'm like "LOL NO SUCH THING :D"

I probably won't be doing a lot of close-ups of these cats except in the same way I've been doing them for Lox. Significant head/face features are important, like a brain bowler hat jar or sharp teeth or interesting eyeballs, but the cats just aren't built for detail.
Gods, they're barely built for more than two dimensions (Do you know how hard it was to figure out how these Powerpuff-legged cats walk? I got some good suggestions though *BAHAHA*)

GIANT ROBOT CATS <3
Inspired by Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, one of my favorite movies. I'm particularly proud of their labels (they are a group of robots known as the S.C.R.O.D. Squad - Super Clanky Robot Overdrive Drones.) *Icameupwiththatwhileinking*
The middle one's name is Johnny.

Introducing S.T.A.N.K.!
I think Cat Pliskin is my favorite. I'm a sucker for weapons experts. In truth, I don't know if I'm even allowed to call him "Pliskin" but it's a parody so... Not sure.
Fishbones is a close second - having been inspired by my own cat also (whose full name is "Dr." Archibald "Spaz Modine" Jekyll...)

The sketch was way awesome. For some reason the final page is less exciting. :C Needs more explosions?

Introducing Fishbones, AKA Dr. McRib! He's my favorite evil kitty because he looks like my real life kitty, on whom his creations are also based. Plus he wears little latex finger gloves as paw gloves. C:
Also introducing the S.T.A.N.K. headquarters, which is inspired by the Hall of Justice/Cincinnati Union Terminal but minus the reflecting-pool-thing (most cats hate water.)

Sidenote: Why do evil groups and villains always settle in the city? If they don't, they're in some ridiculous lair in a volcano or the deep ocean or outer space or a canyon.

I like my new trees technique and non-outlined speech bubs. I hesitated on writing Lox's first line because I was a little worried no one would understand what Lox was saying. Such is the nature of country accents.
P.S. I wonder what Z's taste like.

Astaroth really shows her stuff. Who knew trans-dimensional teleportation could seem so lazy? I guess Lox got what she wanted, anyway.

I wanted to see how it would go if I just used one of the final sketches as line art and colored it in. This is the result.
A fun experiment and a tiny bit of a time saver but I'm not thrilled with it, and it's not something I will do again unless I'm in a huge rush. It's energetic and nervous to be sure, but with some of the "fiddly bits" on characters (like how many angles Reat's hair has, for example) it gets confusing and hard to understand visually. As nice as my sketches are, they look sloppy in a digital format.

Might one day re-do.

Sloth is also the name of the dragon-chameleon hybrid that Astaroth is summoning (diva-style, I might add. Oh snap.) The "real" Astaroth is the demon of vanity and sloth.

May I recommend Bang!Bang!Bang! Have A Nice Dream or Psychedelic Souljam from the Soul Eater OST while looking at this page? LET'S GO SOUL RESONANCE!

(Yeah okay, sometimes the dialogue in Soul Eater is a little cheesy but I enjoyed it. Especially any sequence with soul resonance or Maka putting up a good fight/going insane.)

Note: This is the workstation I'm using for the holidays, so pardon this comic and the next one if the color is off or it seems sloppy. I'll try to fix it later on. I'm used to using an Intuos 4 and a magnificent current-gen iMac on a real desk. What I'm currently using is the tiniest model of the Wacom Graphire4 and a Magic Mouse with a first-gen-Intel Macbook on a coffee table...

I'm a little surprised that Lox can even read, let alone follow instructions on how to summon a demon. She's an independent woman, though.

Fun Fact: The symbol in the book from the previous page as well as the large symbol here are based on an actual sigil of Astaroth. I wrote the outside symbols wrong so that it doesn't actually invoke Astaroth. However, I did do a painting of Astaroth using the correct symbols over the summer.

By far one of my favorite pages. Originally, I didn't have the falling "meow" to signify that the cat wasn't dead. A neighboring studio friend came in and said something about it, and I'm glad I added it. I know it says "mooowwww" but that's how kitty cats sound when they complain. If you have a cat, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

By the way, Papa Bear is not your average bear. He can clearly leap the width of this waterfall. Bears don't really jump in real life. They kind of hop. My friend felt it necessary to point this out as I was coloring this page and the one previous.

Goldilox jumps off of a waterfall that appeared out of virtually nowhere! (Haven't you ever watched a children's movie with a scene in the woods? The damn things are everywhere. Fox and the Hound. Homeward Bound. A Goofy Movie. The list goes on.) And I bet you were wondering what happened to Reat a few pages ago, huh?

That tiny meta-frame below the middle is my favorite. Where Lox is just a shadow. And Lox's expression when she lands on Papa is pretty maniacally silly if I do say so.

In my crits and meetings, this is the page people would point at to talk about Lox's accent. My studio mate hadn't heard "if'n" used as a word before and I don't think she thought I was serious until she got a text from a friend later that day who just so happened to use it.

This is my favorite page so far. The color harmonies worked out nicely and I had a lot of fun adding some of the small details (the can text changing, the features on Lox's text).

This is the page that will be displayed on the site during my large group crit at school, which will hopefully go well. I don't expect they'll scroll down to read this but...
