NO. 10

NUMBER 10
After that big entrance, Astaroth shows her true face. She's lazy as hell! (pun intended)
Sloth is also the name of the dragon-chameleon hybrid that Astaroth is summoning (diva-style, I might add. Oh snap.) The "real" Astaroth is the demon of vanity and sloth.

My brother and sister helped me figure out what to do with the bottom of the page (whitespace.) Props to them!

NUMBER 9
Astaroth arrives on the scene!
May I recommend Bang!Bang!Bang! Have A Nice Dream or Psychedelic Souljam from the Soul Eater OST while looking at this page? LET'S GO SOUL RESONANCE!

(Yeah okay, sometimes the dialogue in Soul Eater is a little cheesy but I enjoyed it. Especially any sequence with soul resonance or Maka putting up a good fight/going insane.)

Note: This is the workstation I'm using for the holidays, so pardon this comic and the next one if the color is off or it seems sloppy. I'll try to fix it later on. I'm used to using an Intuos 4 and a magnificent current-gen iMac on a real desk. What I'm currently using is the tiniest model of the Wacom Graphire4 and a Magic Mouse with a first-gen-Intel Macbook on a coffee table...

NUMBER 8
I'm a little surprised that Lox can even read, let alone follow instructions on how to summon a demon. She's an independent woman, though.

Fun Fact: The symbol in the book from the previous page as well as the large symbol here are based on an actual sigil of Astaroth. I wrote the outside symbols wrong so that it doesn't actually invoke Astaroth. However, I did do a painting of Astaroth using the correct symbols over the summer.

NO. 7

NUMBER 7
By far one of my favorite pages. Originally, I didn't have the falling "meow" to signify that the cat wasn't dead. A neighboring studio friend came in and said something about it, and I'm glad I added it. I know it says "mooowwww" but that's how kitty cats sound when they complain. If you have a cat, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

NUMBER 6
Jekyll falling, but not to his death, so don't worry. I'm not spoiling anything, really. I just wanted you to know that giant cats don't die in this series.

To the pain! (If you're familiar with that one.)

By the way, Papa Bear is not your average bear. He can clearly leap the width of this waterfall. Bears don't really jump in real life. They kind of hop. My friend felt it necessary to point this out as I was coloring this page and the one previous.

NUMBER 5
Goldilox jumps off of a waterfall that appeared out of virtually nowhere! (Haven't you ever watched a children's movie with a scene in the woods? The damn things are everywhere. Fox and the Hound. Homeward Bound. A Goofy Movie. The list goes on.) And I bet you were wondering what happened to Reat a few pages ago, huh?

That tiny meta-frame below the middle is my favorite. Where Lox is just a shadow. And Lox's expression when she lands on Papa is pretty maniacally silly if I do say so.

In my crits and meetings, this is the page people would point at to talk about Lox's accent. My studio mate hadn't heard "if'n" used as a word before and I don't think she thought I was serious until she got a text from a friend later that day who just so happened to use it.

NO. 4

NUMBER 4
This is my favorite page so far. The color harmonies worked out nicely and I had a lot of fun adding some of the small details (the can text changing, the features on Lox's text).

This is the page that will be displayed on the site during my large group crit at school, which will hopefully go well. I don't expect they'll scroll down to read this but...
HELLO CRIT-GOERS!

NO. 3

NUMBER 3
Lox and the cat stare down. Remember the beans can from the first page?

This is the first time we see Reat running and the first mention of Papa. I love Goldilox's side view as well as the "Bullets No Good" graphic (even though shotguns use pellets, not bullets. Lox doesn't care, though.)

P.S. Lox, in addition to being short for Goldilox, is a delicious cured salmon fillet that goes well on a bagel with cream cheese. If you haven't had lox on a bagel before, go get one immediately.

NUMBER 2
HOLY-
That's a big cat.

This page also introduces Reat's way of speaking in singular words. This is partially inspired by baby Sunny from A Series of Unfortunate Events, but mostly it's because Reat just cain't talk so guud. You could say she's a minimalist, har har.

Fun Fact: This giant cat is based on my real-life pet, Jekyll (also the monster cat's name but he won't be properly introduced for awhile.) Real-life Jekyll is a tyrannical beast-cat who loves to wake people up every morning by tear-assing around the house, knocking things off of shelves, howling, and picking up his food bowl and dropping it over and over. He also doesn't cover his business in the litterbox very well for no discernible reason (seriously, we've tried everything.) He is also full of hate and doesn't usually like to be picked up, held, pet on, or loved except on rare occasions. But he's a gorgeous cat. :D

NUMBER 1
This is the VERY FIRST page of Cat's Fur!

This page introduces Goldilox and Reat as the weirdos that they are. Lox is shooting cans with a shotgun and Reat is catching them in mid-air!

Suddenly, they hear something crashing through the forest...

The comics will follow the 7 x 10.5 inch format, even though I have huge margins on the top and bottom because I'm a total loser and forgot what size comic books are when I was drawing the pages. That will be fixed as I get through the first set of pages. I was using a tiny sketchbook at the time I started this comic (don't buy small sketchbooks.)

Cats Fur To Make Kitten Britches

Cats Fur To Make Kitten Britches
First of all, my name is Kathryn DiMartino and I'm an illustrator!
Here's my portfolio already.

If you're wondering what the hell this is, Cat's Fur is a serial comic, which I plan on updating weekly (after these first couple of pages, which I'll release over the next week.)

Cat's Fur began as an amalgamation of all my characters over the years smashed together in a comic. Then I watched way too much Sgt. Frog and ended up with some little multi-colored cat villains. And that's pretty much where we are now. :D

Cat's Fur isn't intended as anything serious except in the sense that I'm serious about making it. It's an outlet for all the crazy and stupid things in my head. A sandbox in which my inner demons can come out and play, if you will. Weird things happen here... This comic is inspired by a number of things and will probably reference them, as well as a multitude of other obscure and/or cult movies, comics, cartoons, and so on. That is not to say that I'm going to let the comic be ultra-derivative and totally un-unique, but I'm not trying that hard to make it TOTALLY unlike anything you've ever seen before either.
I think it's okay to be like other things, as long as those other things are awesome.

Cat's Fur is my first serial comic, and my very first webcomic. So take it easy on me, divas! At least I'm not making another stick figure / sprite comic, right? (LOL)

HERE WE GO.

Written/Illustrated by Drew Green
This one is important because my guest page for Drew's comic is what led me to finally make my own webcomic. I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to try it for myself, and Drew made it look like so much fun. So here I am. Thanks Drew, even though you have no idea that I had a nerd-fit when I got to do a page for your comic.

Written/Illustrated by Tessa Stone
I don't really need to plug this comic because everyone knows about it, but I like it! It motivated me to think of cels a bit differently. Plus it's gorgeous.

No longer updated, but I wanted to give props to the only webcomic I followed religiously, ever.

In case you missed my links on the About page, here they are again. Plus a couple more.
